Novgorod The Great

You will find in the Novgorod Region ("Oblast" in Russian) a Regional Government and municipal governments that are committed to economic growth. We know that such growth can only come from the private sector. And we recognize that at this stage of Russia's transition, private investors need support from local governments.
Novgorod has a proven record of providing such support - 1ranging from tax incentives to expedited decision-making-that makes it one of the easiest and most profitable places in the Russian Federation to establish and operate a business. We are proud of our reputation for sound government, and respect for law and order.
Novgorod the Great, the first capital of Russia, is strategically located between Moscow and St.Petersburg, with Russia's best infrastructure and transport links. And we are small enough that each investor is important to us.
Call us and let us show you why you should choose our region as the site for your plant in Russia.

POTENTIAL FOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Novgorod Oblast has sufficient deposits of clay, lime, sand and gravel material, timber, peat, as well as rich water and fish resources. More than half of the region's territory is covered with woods with prevailing deciduous species of trees.

A complex utilisation of forest resources was recognized as one of the main trends in the structural reorganization of the region's economy. The calculated wood-cutting area is 12 million cubic meters , which is six times larger than the quantities to date.

The recent years have witnessed an active research of possible deposits of diamonds, oil and gas.

Novgorod's recreation and rehabilitation resources include the lakes lirnen, Seliger, mineral and radon springs, medicinal mud of the Staraya Russa spa. Valdai National Park is considered a treasure of Central Russia's natural landscapes. Large tourist potential along with good environmental quality make the oblast one of the most attractive recreation and medical rehabilitation areas in Russia, to be compared only with the North-Caucasian Mineral Water Resorts and the Black Sea Coast.

In order to enhance power capability, a decision was taken to built a hydropower station at Krestsy, which should become an important unit for the economies of the region and the whole Northwest of Russia. The investment required for the project is estimated 1 billion US dollars. The project's implementation will cover the lack of electric power in Novgorod Oblast and allow for its export.

Only a few regions in Russia have such a concentration of radio-electronic, instrument-manufacturing and telecommunications equipment enterprises. Novgorod factories possess production area, equipment, process engineering, and, importantly, have a large supply of skilled manpower.

The use of professional workforce and advanced R&D solutions will work to an advantage of the Western partners of Novgorodian manufacturers.

Novgorod State University trains specialists to work in the free-market environment and has good contacts and cooperative programmes with educational establishments in Denmark, Poland, Germany, Finland, Sweden and the USA.
